Growing up, I always wanted to become a doctor and surprisingly, this was not due to pressure from my ‘African’ parents to choose a career path that is typically considered prestigious. It was because I wanted to save and impact lives in my own little way. This has stuck with me since childhood and though I did not study medicine, I find myself on a career path that allows me to achieve this innate desire.
Reflecting back to my first day at ACE Charity, it was one of the most memorable days of my time at work. Something about ACE felt right and resonated with my spirit- I promise I am not preaching. After being introduced to the team, I was asked to write my opinion on our Educate a Northern Girl campaign, everyone was very friendly, professional and open to my suggestions and ideas. This instantly made me feel comfortable and welcomed to the team. As an Intern, I take turns to shadow in various departments, this has so far helped me to pick up relevant skills which I know and I am very willing to develop.
My most notable experience yet was the #500Shoes500Feet outreach, It was my first time at a local outreach. I was excited and the children were equally fascinated and eager to receive brand new shoes. We successfully distributed 500 “shoes that grow” to 500 children ranging from primary 1-6 in an LEA primary school, Abuja. The smiles and gratitude on their faces was truly fulfilling. I am so glad to be part of a team that enables me to give back to my community, develop practical skills and make a lasting impact.
