ACE Radio School

ACE Radio School is an educational project aimed at providing quality education to children in underserved areas through radio. The radio school was initiated in March 2020 as an “emergency in education” initiative for children in underserved areas who were unable to access online learning, while at home due to the school closures from the COVID-19 pandemic. With school resumption in 2021, the ACE Radio School is now focused on providing quality education for out-of-school children, who lack access to formal education systems. In Northern Nigeria, states like Kano, Adamawa, Borno record high numbers of out-of-school children in the country, and security concerns in Adamawa and Borno have forced parents to keep their children at home.

The program airs three times a week via four radio stations; Freedom FM in Kano state, Radio Gotel in Adamawa, Peace FM in Borno, Wazobia FM in Abuja, Kaduna, Niger, Nassarawa, Kogi, Abuja and Plateau states. We employ the services of teachers from top-quality private schools, thereby bridging the divide by providing children in underserved communities with access to private school education. Each teacher is professionally trained and able to employ teaching methods that are creative, interesting, engaging, and interactive. The teachers develop the scheme, write the scripts, and record the sessions needed for broadcast.

ACE Radio School has proven beneficial in bridging the educational gap, providing knowledge to school children in disadvantaged communities. It has recorded significant listener engagement and participation from listeners across its implementation states. Out-of-school children from disadvantaged communities used ACE Radio School as their primary source of education, fully supported by their parents, indicating a shift in the value of education among Northerners in Nigeria.
