ACE Radio School

ACE Charity Africa

ACE Radio School was initiated as an emergency educational radio intervention during COVID-19, and has been transformed to an alternative form of education for out-of-school children. The educational content is developed by highly qualified professional teachers, and aligns with the national curriculum.

ACE Radio School has been broadcasted through 6 radio stations to 17 states with a combined peak listenership of over 14 million listeners. We have received over 17000 responses (calls and text messages) from listeners; with 89.2% of the respondents learning from ACE Radio School.

Other indirect beneficiaries are school children who have reported learning during school holidays; and teachers who have reported applying the teaching methodologies, applied in ACE Radio School, in their classrooms.

Overall, ACE Radio School has increased female literacy rates by reaching girls, including married girls, who were denied access to formal education. By teaching children at home and in their local languages, uneducated parents are dispelled of the false myths on western education. Children from disadvantaged communities use ACE Radio School as their primary source of education, fully supported by their parents, indicating a shift in the value of education.

ACE Radio School
Listening Groups

We have listening groups of 30 to 50 children receiving basic or secondary education in six states (Borno, Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto, Bauchi, FCT and Kwara states) where children gather to listen via a speaker to the ACE Radio School. This helps us carefully assess the children’s progress so we can better measure impact. So far, we have reached over 1000 out-of-school children through the listening groups.

To monitor and evaluate learning outcomes, we conduct a pre-assessment to capture their entry knowledge every month, and by the end of the month, a post-assessment is also conducted. M&E data shows a 2-fold overall increase in knowledge over a six-month period. Additionally, over 55% of the listening group beneficiaries enroll into formal schools after six months, due to their increased interest in education.

The Knowledge Channel

We are currently working on setting up an educational community radio station called Knowledge FM, which is designed to deliver educational content that will cater to children, women, and men. The educational content will include primary, secondary and tertiary education content, life skills, as well as health, financial, economic, gender and agricultural education. The knowledge channel will empower people living in disadvantaged communities with the holistic, quality education they need to thrive.
