ACE Charity Gave Me My Childhood Dream

I have always wanted to work with children. When I was a child, I wanted to own an orphanage and a children’s hospital. In Secondary school, I wanted to be a paediatrician. When I could not be a paediatrician, I wanted to work with UNICEF, because it was the only child-focused NGO I knew.

Over the years, I have volunteered for several child-focused NGOs, but this is the first opportunity I have had to work full-time for one.  ACE Charity is aimed at improving the quality of life of African children from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with quality education, and I am glad to be a part of it. I have always been an advocate of equity and fairness, and I believe that these values are some of what ACE Charity embodies.

I started working with ACE Charity as a Program Officer in May 2020, when the COVID-19 lockdown was in full effect. Since then, I have worked on the ACE Radio School, which is currently providing quality learning to disadvantaged children who cannot afford online learning, via radio. I have also been tasked with receiving phone calls from ACE Radio School listeners in the Northern implementation states. Truly, the calls of appreciation from the children and the parents have been worth it.

I can’t wait for the pandemic to be over, and for schools to open. I can’t wait to visit the Learning Resource Centres to watch and help children gain literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. I can’t wait to be a part of improving literacy and numeracy skills of out-of-school children in the safe space in Sokoto. I can’t wait to work with the children at the Noble Club, aimed at making Nigerian children noble citizens, problem solvers and leaders.
